Edgar Degas

French Impressionist painter and sculptor Edgar Degas, considered to be a founder of Impressionism,  was intent on capturing spontaneous and natural poses of his studies.  He is most known for his paintings and sculptures of dancing ballerinas which make up over half of his work.  In many of his paintings the subjects are off centered or even cut off, achieving the difficult feat of giving the impression of movement in the painting.  His works are celebrated as supreme Masterpieces and mark him as an innovator in his own right.
