Alphonse Mucha

Alphonse Mucha was a Czech Art Nouveau painter and decorative artist. Mucha studied in Paris and around Christmas 1894, he volunteered to produce a lithographed advertising poster for a play starring Sarah Bernhardt, the most famous actress in Paris. It was an overnight sensation and heralded the new artistic style and Mucha to Parisian culture.  The birth of Art nouveau known as "Mucha Art" featured beautiful young women in Neoclassical robes, surrounded by lush flowers and halos behind their heads.
