August Macke

August Macke is regarded as a master colorist, generating a colorful and cheerful world in his art. What he called the "joyful living- through of nature" was confirmed in his love of brilliant color and simplified form. He was a member of the artist coalition called the "Der Blau Reiter" with artist friends Franz Marc and Wassily Kandinsky contributing to the influential overview of new European  Expressionist Trends. August Macke died as a soldier in action in WWI.
